The film was originally to be released in theaters, but after constant rescheduling, it was resolved that direct to video would make it easier to release.

Unlike a lot of well-known and successful musicians, Jack Johnson did not grow up with dreams of making it big as a singer or songwriter. He was not obsessed with practicing his instrument or working on his vocals, but more with riding the famous waves of Oahu's north shore. Johnson, a Hawaii native, grew up riding some of the best surf that can be found on the planet and looked poised to embark on a professional surfing career. Though Johnson claims that it was always his plan to attend college on the mainland, a serious surfing accident may have helped confirm that as the right move.

Seems like not that long ago I was lugging my acoustic guitar from my friend's house eager to learn how to play with my new toy and stopping off at the local music store to pick up a guitar book. Now ten years later the thought of going to a music shop to buy a guitar book seems almost unheard of since the widespread of the internet changing the way we research information. My last guitar video, which was admittedly on VHS, now seems so outdated and obsolete compared to the online guitar videos available (some for free).
