Acrylic plastic is plastic that belongs to a group of synthetic man-made plastic materials that contain a few derivative materials of acrylic acid. Most common types of acrylic is called polymethyl methacrylate and is sold as brand name Plexiglas, Perspex and Lucite and even crystallite. PMMA, or polymethyl methacrylate is tough and transparent and has excellent resisting ability to ultraviolet radiations and weathering. This material used in acrylic awards can be molded, formed, drilled and cut and even colored. These types of properties makes it perfect for all kinds of applications like windshields on airplanes and car taillights and skylights and signs that are kept outdoors and so must withstand many different types of weather. One building's ceiling is the Houston Astrodome and has hundreds of insulating paneling sheets of PMMA acrylic plastic, the same material that is used in acrylic awards which are given to employees and athletes to recognize achievements or accomplishments.

Hard work always pays off in the end. A common saying is that success is 99 percent perspiration and one percent inspiration. Firms and establishments resort to various methods to award their most productive and illustrious employees. Some of them are rewarded with a much needed promotion, while others may be provided with a vacation package. Another company tactic to instill desire and recognize hard work is to provide employees or contributors with custom awards. These are usually presented to people who have been exceptionally illustrious in their field. Custom awards are also regularly handed out in sporting events. The award design may be unique in nature, and the award will have an engraving usually displaying a logo and a message of appreciation. Honoring an employee when he has rendered his services to a firm for a long period of time has become a prerequisite in the modern corporate world. Often, the company’s executives show their gratitude by hosting a party for the honored employee. When the employee is retiring, this party is hosted with the intention that a final good bye can be bid by all the senior executives and fellow co-workers. Usually in such parties people who have worked with the person being honored come forth and talk about their experiences with the honoree. Towards the end of the party, the employee is often given a memento in the form of a corporate award. This is considered an important aspect of the party. One of the vexing questions which comes to mind in such situations is about the award which will to be bestowed. Since the field is large and diverse, numerous options exist for corporate awards. Some of the common materials which are used for the construction of corporate awards are metal (bronze, pewter and steel), glass, and marbles which are multicolored. Some corporate awards are also manufactured using marble or acrylic bases. The main requisite of the award is that it should be pleasing to the eyes as well as have some significance to the company and honoree.

If you're anything like me, you were sitting on your couch on Monday, January 15th watching the Golden Globe Awards to see which of your favorite stars, movies and television shows would take home awards. (And, to see what everyone was wearing!) This year's show did not disappoint. Newcomer America Ferrara, from the new ABC show Ugly Betty, took home a Best Actress award. Jennifer Hudson, of American Idol fame, won her first Golden Globe for her supporting role in the film Dreamgirls. Some old timers were also honored, such as Meryl Streep for The Devil Wears Prada.
