Rafael Nadal, a Spaniard of 22 years and world No.1, won the final at the Monte Carlo Masters by beating the Serbian Novak Djokovic 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 this past Sunday in two hours and 43 minutes. This is the Spaniard’s 5th straight title in this tournament and he is now the first player to win five consecutive games in Monte Carlo. Moreover, this is also Rafa’s 27th victory at the Monte Carlo Masters and the 21st straight win in clay since his defeat against Juan Carlos Ferrero in the second round of the Rome Masters in 2008.

The American tennis player of 27 years old, Serena Williams, was very successful in her first game of the Australian Open by beating the Chinese Yuan Meng 6-3, 6-2 this Tuesday at the Rod Laver Arena. Her game performance was slower than usual due to the heated weather conditions of the early afternoon, but she did really well even with the high temperatures of this summer at Melbourne. The American played conservatively and took her time to control the tempo of the game, even though she made 31 unforced errors in attempts to shorten the points.

The 23-year-old Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, world No.7, played consistently in the final of the French Open and beat the world No.1 Dinara Safina in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Both Russians have grow playing each other, but a more determined and calmed Kuznetsova controlled his emotions to a point that for her it was just another match in which she needed to enjoy and play the game she loves.

The two-time Grand Slam Champion, 27-year-old Lleyton Hewitt, will be back soon to the tennis courts after he recovers from a hip surgery. The surgery was practiced last August, after he was knocked out of the Beijing Olympics by the No.1 of the world Rafael Nadal.

The French tennis player of 23 years-old Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, won the third ATP title of his career in the SA Tennis Open at Johannesburg, South Africa in an hour and 48 minutes without dropping a set. Tsonga beat his countryman Jeremy Chardy in great way 6-4, 7-6(7-5). Both players played at their best but the experience of Tsonga in crucial moments gave him an edge to win the title. Tsonga won a total of $79.000 and his counterpart Chardy got the second place with $41,500. This ATP Tour final was the first one for the 21-years-old and No.61 of the world Jeremy Chardy.

The 21-year-old Scottish, Andy Murray, proclaimed himself the champion of the Qatar Open this past weekend by beating Andy Roddick 6-4, 6-2 in the final. This became his sixth victory in 8 matches with the American. The Scottish played in great way this tournament and has improved consistently in his game.

The 27-year-old and seeded No.2, Roger Federer advanced to the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami by beating the German Nicolas Keifer 6-4, 6-1. It was a great game for the Swiss, who had to play with strong winds and with a little bit of rain. However, despite all this difficulties, the Swiss played amazingly well and this win gives some more confidence in his game to the world No.2 and a secure place to play the fourth round of the tournament; hoping for his first title of the year, and the first Masters title in quite a while, since he won his last one in August, 2007.

The Italian player of 32 years-old Alessandro Nesta, still has an uncertain future on Serie A and in his football career due to his chronic back injury. Nesta has been in Miami for a while in rehabilitation, but it is suspected that he is not getting better and his back problems continue. Some Italian papers and rumours have stated that is possible that the Italian football defender will need surgery soon so he can end his back problems, but this could leave him out for the rest of the season and could even mean the end his football professional career.

The 13-Grand Slam winner, 27 years-old Swiss Roger Federer, captured his third consecutive title at his hometown Basel in the Swiss Indoor tournament by beating the Argentine David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-4. The Swiss had an almost perfect match by hitting eight aces and accepting only seven points on his serve in the whole game.

The No.2 of the world and 27-years-old, the Swiss Roger Federer, is ready to start his next tournament at Indian Wells. The Swiss has not play since his loss against the Spaniard Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open in January due to a back injury. Federer had to drop the Dubai Championship and the Davis Cup while he recovered from his injury.
